Ardagh has developed “a uniquely shaped” metal tin for Mead Johnson’s new line of Enfinitas infant nutrition formula for the Asian market.
The design, unique for a metal can in this market segment, is formed through a process called “mechanical expansion”, where the top and base of the can are expanded, whilst the middle waist section retains its original size. This produces a concave effect. The can is then sealed with a tamper-evident Easy Peel opening solution, specifically embossed with the Mead Johnson logo.
Ewoud Vriens, commercial director nutrition for Ardagh’s metal division, said: “We value our strategic relationship with Mead Johnson and our close cooperation in supply chain, quality and innovation which has led to this uniquely shaped can innovation. For this project, together with our R&D Centre in Crosmières, France, we aimed to create a truly distinctive packaging that would achieve clear differentiation, convienence and impactful shelf standout.”
The shaped can is produced at Ardagh’s production facility in Hoogeveen, the Netherlands – Ardagh’s biggest dedicated nutrition metal packaging plant.
“I am very pleased that as a team we have been able to work together for this important launch,” Vriens concluded.
