The breakfast pizza is topped with sausage, bacon, eggs and ham.
American convenience chain 7-Eleven has started selling a breakfast pizza, which it said would bridge the divide between people who prefer a traditional breakfast to start the day – and those who would rather grab a slice of leftover pizza.
The new breakfast item is topped with smoked bacon, breakfast sausage, hickory-smoked ham, scrambled eggs, cheddar and mozzarella cheese, as well as a peppered cream gravy, all on top of a flaky biscuit crust.
It is part of 7-Eleven stores’ two-for-$2 pizza slice offer, with whole breakfast pizzas available for $5.55.
The company hopes that the pizza will complement its offering of freshly brewed coffee in store during the morning.
“This is a hearty option for customers craving a warm breakfast in addition to their fresh-brewed cup of coffee on cold mornings,” said Nancy Smith, 7-Eleven senior vice-president of fresh food and proprietary beverages. “And it’s great for sharing at the office, giving co-workers another great option [other than] the usual box of great doughnuts.”
During a successful test at select 7-Eleven stores, the breakfast pizza proved so popular with customers that it became the second highest-selling pizza.
7-Eleven vice president Dennis Phelps continued: “Since we started carrying hot pizza, it has become one of the best-selling ready-to-eat foods at 7-Eleven stores. Mornings are our busiest time of day, and adding a breakfast pizza will prove to be as popular with the AM crowd as our other pizzas are for lunch and dinner.”
According to the Dallas-headquartered company, citing a consumer survey from Technomic, breakfast is the fastest-growing food daypart in the foodservice sector. Fast food restaurants have extended their breakfast menu beyond the morning hours and shown sales increases as a result, and now was the turn of the impulse channel.
