2 Sisters Food Group has invested £7 million to upgrade the company’s Cavanagh & Gray prepared meals factory in Carlisle, UK.
The investment comes as 2 Sisters has secured a contract with UK retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S), which will see 2 Sisters produce around 30 new products for the retailer, with a particular focus on gastro, fish and vegetable meals.
A new vegetable processing facility will be built at the site, which will include cooling tunnels, two automated packing lines, coating systems and steam-injecting kettles for the cooking and cooling of sauces.
Approximately 200 new jobs will be created at the site as a result of the investment.
Ronald Kers, chief executive of 2 Sisters Food Group, said: “Our vision is to create a truly world-class business which is trusted to deliver, so we are delighted such a prestigious customer as M&S recognise and value us as a reliable partner with the ability to create quality food, for the right price in a sustainable and transparent way.
“Delicious, healthy, convenient and affordable food is increasingly being sought by consumers and our business can work extremely closely with customers like M&S to create own label brands that truly differentiate themselves from competitors.”
Kate Stein, head of food technology at Marks & Spencer added: “We are transforming our supply base to create a faster, more commercial network which will improve value and availability for our customers.
“The new site extension at Carlisle will help us react more quickly to consumer tastes and develop and deliver great quality, innovative products to market.”
