“Each stage of the brewing process produces waste,” said Juan Jurado, manager filtration and separation at Alfa Laval. “For every 1,000 tonnes of beer produced, up to 173 tonnes of solid waste may be created in the form of spent grain, trub from wort production, waste yeast and kieselguhr.”
Alfa Laval’s multi-purpose Brew 80 centrifuge module for craft brewing is a compact plug and play separation module designed for clarifying beer after fermentation, or after maturation and is perfect for near-bright beer styles.
The centrifuge minimises oxygen pick-up, minimises loss of volatile aromas and minimises CO2 losses. Beer losses are very low as yeast and other discharged solids are dry. With a variable capacity of up to 50hl/h, the Brew 80 is ideal for independent craft breweries that are looking to improve their beer production, without affecting the taste already achieved from traditional brewing methods.
The centrifuge is supplied as a complete skid-mounted module which does not need expensive baseplates, and can be wheeled in, connected and started.
