Amazon has signed a distribution agreement with French retailer Casino Group, which will make groceries from Casino’s Monoprix supermarket available through the Amazon Prime Now platform.
Casino claims the service will be introduced later this year, and will initially be available to customers in Paris and the surrounding area through a dedicated Monoprix store on the Prime Now app and website.
This agreement provides Casino with a strong e-commerce platform in the face of changing consumer habits in the country, as more consumers are moving towards online shopping.
Retail rival Carrefour has also identified this trend, and invested €2.8 billion in e-commerce earlier this year as it sought to compete with Amazon in this sector.
Jean-Charles Naouri, chairman and CEO of Casino Group said: “Thanks to this unique partnership between Amazon and Monoprix, Casino Group reinforces its omni channel distribution strategy and gets even closer to its customers and their needs.
“This commercial partnership is a new milestone in Casino Group strategy to innovate ever more for tomorrow’s urban commerce.”
Amazon.fr’s country manager Frédéric Duval added: “This commercial partnership, which further enlarges Prime Now service selection, will enable Amazon Prime customers to benefit from ultra-fast deliveries for their Monoprix orders.”
Régis Schultz, chairman of Monoprix said: “Monoprix further differentiates and increases its unique position as urban omni channel leader.
“Monoprix will benefit from the most comprehensive grocery delivery service in Paris.”
