Packaging company Amcor has completed the acquisition of South African flexible packaging manufacturer Nampak Flexibles for ZAR 250m ($22m).
The deal will allow the Australia-based producer to enhance its presence on the African continent, with Nampak the leader in South Africa’s flexible packaging market.
The acquisition covers three production plants with extrusion, lamination and conversion capabilities, as well as network of multi-national and domestic clients in the food and beverage industries.
The Johannesburg-based company generated sales of approximately $94m last year.
Amcor CEO and managing director Ken MacKenzie said: “This acquisition provides a platform for growth in the African region. Nampak Flexibles has an experienced management team and is the market leader in South Africa. It services many of Amcor’s existing global customers and creates the opportunity to leverage our product innovation and design capabilities into this market.”
