A new survey conducted by Toluna has revealed that Americans who own a home carbonation maker consume more water than those who don’t.
Of the 3,680 adults surveyed, those who made their own sparkling water, consume 43% more water and ‘water based beverages’ than average Americans, or the equivalent of almost three more glasses of water a day. The survey also showed that people who use home carbonation makers consume less full sugar beverages, such as sodas, juices and energy drinks, than those households without one.
‘Water-based beverages’ were defined as tap water and still water as well as sparkling water, flavoured sparkling water and drinks made using a home sparkling water maker, excluding sodas and juices.
“At SodaStream, we’ve always believed that our products help people hydrate healthy. This survey supports that and reinforces our belief that we are a powerful tool in helping people live a healthier life by simply drinking more water,” said Daniel Birnbaum, CEO of SodaStream. “By making water exciting by adding bubbles and the possibility of natural flavors or a squeeze of lemon, SodaStream gives Americans the opportunity to better enjoy water and drink more of it. This proof is a very exciting discovery for us.”
Additional survey highlights include:
More sparkles = more sipping: Almost half of Americans surveyed believe that having fresh sparkling water (plain or with flavours) available at home will help them drink more water. In fact, SodaStream users strongly agree that SodaStream helps them hydrate more (84%). ‘Palatability’ and ‘pleasure’ were the primary reported reasons for increased consumption of water.
I want to drink more water: 40% of all adults surveyed reported understanding the health benefits of adequate hydration and felt that home carbonation might help increase their intake.
Water loyal and brand loyal: 56% of SodaStream users report using their machines primarily to make sparkling water. These users also report using SodaStream exclusively for their sparkling beverage consumption in the home.
