Interbrands’ Top 10 Best Global Brands 2103 report shows Apple in the lead, with Google in second place. Coca-Cola follows in third after a 13-year run at the top.
‘Every so often, a company changes our lives, not just with its products, but also with its ethos. This is why, following Coca-Cola’s 13-year run at the top of Best Global Brands, Interbrand has a new number 1 – Apple,’ said the 2013 report.
Interbrand estimates the value of Apple’s brand at US$98.3bn, an increase of 28% over last year.
“Few brands have enabled so many people to do so much so easily, which is why Apple has legions of adoring fans,” Interbrand said.
But despite its fall from the top spot, Interbrand said that Coca-Cola remained the world’s most recognisable brand. It has 73.3 million likes on its Facebook page, while Apple has a mere 1.4 million. Coca-Cola is also followed by 1.9 million people on Twitter, where Apple has no official presence.
Interbrand said: “Coca-Cola achieves impressive global presence through standout ad campaigns, bold design, digital savvy and a simple, universally relevant theme that weaves throughout the brand’s communications: happiness.”
In an increasingly savvy social media world, maybe future value can be measured in recognition rather than cash?
