The medal tally meant that Belton Cheese was also awarded the prestigious ‘Cheesemakers Trophy for Excellence’ sponsored by J Sainsbury.
With a record number of entries, this year was historic, as never before has the trophy ventured out of the southwest. In addition, Belton Cheese becomes the first English territorial cheese-maker to win the trophy.
Commenting on the win, Justin Beckett, MD said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have won 13 medals and to top it off winning the Cheesemakers Trophy for Excellence and the Aplin & Barrett Perpetual Challenge Trophy. These awards are the culmination of the dedication and hard work of everyone at Belton Cheese. We’re particularly pleased to have won gold for our new cloth-bound Rinded Red Leicester.”
