Packaging manufacturing group Benson will showcase the finish quality of its new perfecting press at a trade show in February.
The Heidelberg Speedmaster XL106 B1 is “capable of printing two colours plus coating on the reverse before flipping the material and printing six colours plus two coating on the surface of the board,” according to the company.
Benson Group will also debut an innovative new print technique called 3D evolution, which involves the application of pearlescent varnish to a carton as part of a standard offset lithographic process; it is then compressed using a specialist plate and distorted against the substrate, which creates the 3D effect. The finish is achievable using Benson’s Verso service, which is available on the recently installed Heidelberg Speedmaster.
The group demonstrated the scope of the new techniques while working on a packaging solution for Depth whiskey.
A company spokesperson said: “Benson’s range includes state of the art designs and revolutionary print techniques developed by the company’s conceptual design and technical teams. Some of the print finishes on show will have been produced on the brand new Heidelberg Speedmaster XL106 B1 format perfecting press recently installed at the group’s Gateshead facility.”
Benson lists brands such as Bombay Sapphire, Crabtree & Evelyn, Aldi and Kopparberg as previous clients to its packaging design and manufacture function.
