Bangladesh is potentially an important market as it has a population of about 150m – almost half of that of the US – but with a low soft drinks penetration rate. The country has also weathered the global recession remarkably well, averaging 6-7% growth per year.
Coca-Cola has been in Bangladesh since 1965. Its initial agreement was with Tabani Beverages, but that lapsed in 2008 when Tabani was unable to increase capacity. The new plant will be ready in a little less than three years, producing Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, juice-based drinks and bottled water.
