Charoen Pokphand Foods (CP Foods) will embark on “a digital transformation” that is set to “revolutionise the supply chain” in its broiler chicken business, the Thai company has said.
It is working with US-based JDA Software to revamp its supply chain, with cloud technology and big data set to play an important role in improving efficiencies.
The partnership will aim to digitalise the whole of CP Foods’ business “from upstream to downstream” – including stores, distribution centres, logistics operations, and manufacturing. CP Foods said the improvements would lead to cost savings, reduced environmental impact and improved customer experience.
Sooksunt Jiumjaiswanglerg, co-president of CP Foods and CEO of its agro-industrial business unit, said: “CP Foods has [agreed] to change to strengthen competitiveness in the world market. It is my honour to say that we are the first company in the food sector of Thailand to make a digital supply chain transformation. The digitalisation helps us to attain the finest and safest food quality as well as ensuring consumers that our products will be delivered in a timely manner.”
And Prasit Boondoungprasert, chief operating officer of CP Foods’ chicken business and international trade, explained that the revamped supply chain would allow it to integrate all units involved in broiler operations. The digital transformation will start from the broiler business in Thailand and expand to CP Foods’ overseas business later on.
Boondoungprasert said: “As a leading integrated agro-industrial and food business, it is upmost important for CP Foods to attain the best supply chain visibility to ensure our strength in our production and ensuring demand and supply planning accuracy. The digitalisation is allowing us to improve our consumer experience, reducing risk, rightsizing inventory and reducing wastes.”
As part of the industry’s digitisation, global food and beverage companies have been quick to adopt a number of digital solutions that allow them to monitor and improve transparency, boost the flexibility of production plants, automate processes, predict necessary downtime and troubleshoot mechanical situations in plant remotely.
Amit Bagga, president of JDA Software in Asia-Pacific, concluded: “As consumers become more demanding and regulations get stringent, supply chains are becoming more complex with processing more intricate. To stay competitive and agile, organisations need to leverage supply chain technologies and accelerate their digital transformation.
“With the JDA solutions, CP Foods will now be able to direct and track every touch point along the way; move with agility, efficiency and control; while being a trusted, low-risk partner to its customers.”
