The Nong Khae facility will begin producing beverage cans on one line in June. Annual production capacity is estimated to be 500m two-piece 33cl aluminium cans.
“We have found that there is growing demand and increasing consumer preference for beverages packaged in aluminium cans in Thailand,” said Frank Koh, VP beverage cans SE Asia, Crown Asia Pacific. “In response to that, our new plant will also have the ability to produce 50cl beverage cans and 33cl sleek cans. This is the first time Crown will be producing the sleek format in Asia, and it is part of Crown’s strategy to offer more options for both local and regional customers who are looking to refresh their packaging mix.”
In the wake of the floods that hit Thailand in 2011 and affected many local industries, Crown has stuck by its initial investment in the country, and was firm about recommencing its developments in the area.
In Vietnam, Crown’s Da Nang plant started commercial production in early May, with one can line in operation and an initial production capacity of 720 million 33cl cans. The Da Nang facility is Crown’s fourth beverage can plant in Vietnam. The company also operates one facility in Hanoi and two in Ho Chi Minh City.
