As detailed in its announcement on 2 July, the sale further reduces Dairy Crest’s exposure to the ‘middle ground’ milk market. Deliveries to residential and middle ground customers in this region have become less profitable following Dairy Crest’s closure of its Liverpool dairy last year.
Commenting on the sale, Dairy Crest chief executive Mark Allen said: “We reported at our AGM earlier this month that the profitability of our dairies business continues to improve towards our 3% medium-term target. The sale of our North West depot-based delivery business is another step on this journey.”
