In the days before the big final, Twitter was awash with Tweets offering countless ideas and recipes for Super Bowl parties and other events.
And then there were the advertisements. Countless billions of dollars were invested in ads that were screened around this major sports event. And it was good to see dairy involved.
Before the event, there was the traditional ‘got milk’ Super Bowl themed ad featuring the rival team captains – the New York Giants’ Hakeem Nicks and New England Patriots’ Wes Welker. And after the event, winning captain Nicks featured in his own individual version.
Among the TV ads, dairy scored with a Dannon commercial for Greek yogurt. The commercial, featured in the FoodBev website, was the first Super Bowl yogurt commercial from the company and featured Oikos Greek yogurt and actor John Stamos. It was reported that the ad scored well with viewers – rated as 10th highest (out of 56) in the Super Bowl admeter sponsored by USA Today and Facebook.
The California Milk Advisory Board also produced an ad that featured locally rather than nationally.
And New York made yogurt featured in the traditional wager between the State Governors of the two teams. The bet highlights regional cuisine and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo added 46 cases of yogurt to 46 dozen bagels and 46 cheesecakes for his bet. The loser’s wager is donated to a charity of the winner’s choosing.
There was speculation in the press as to which yogurts these would be. But as New York were the winners – we don’t know.
