According to the newspaper, Danone said it would withdraw the yogurt from March due to lower sales brought on by the global economic crisis. Instead, it would focus on its core brands rather than experiment with new products. “Our focus will be on our blockbuster products,” Danone said.
Essensis will only be withdrawn from the French market and continues to be available in the UK, Spain, Belgium and Italy.
Danone told FT that in order to meet consumers’ needs for more economical products, it had started production of less expensive yogurts in a new ‘Eco Pack’ range.
