Barcelona-based gin and spirits producer Distilerías MG has acquired a majority stake in Spanish beverage importer Amer Gourmet.
Amer Goumet enjoys a strong reputation owing to its long-standing tradition of importing, distributing and developing premium spirits brands. In recent years its brands have recorded double-digit growth in the Spanish market; among them are the French gin Citadelle, the aged Guatemalan rum Botran and Tito’s American vodka.
The merger is expected to create ‘major synergies’ for the new group, Amer Gourmet said. It will reinforce the company’s position in a market in which it has already become a significant player.
After the signing of the agreement, Amer Gourmet will continue to manage its current brand portfolio and César and Pablo Villar Amer, the company’s second generation, will remain at the helm of its operations.
Destilerías MG is a family business founded in Barcelona in 1835. More than five generations of distillers, committed to tradition, quality and innovation in their field, have led its products to market in more than 50 countries worldwide.
