The European bottled water sector has announced measures to support efforts towards sustainable development, in preparation for this weekend’s World Water Day.
The European Federation of Bottled Waters (EFBW) claimed that sustainable resource management was key to the sustainable development of the market, and as such was “a top priority for the bottled water industry”.
It also lended its support to Sunday’s World Water Day, which was first launched by the United Nations more than 20 years ago.
“Through public-private partnerships, European producers have been safeguarding catchment areas for well over a hundred years, helping to protect the natural ecosystems through which water flows to reach its natural source. The industry has a long standing commitment to preserving resources and continues to play a leading role in promoting recycling, reducing its packaging, and minimising energy and water consumption,” EFBW added.
EFBW secretary general Patricia Fosselard said: “Comprehensive groundwater management is crucial to ensure the protection and availability of natural mineral water and spring water sources. Thanks to the sector’s important source protection policies and a stringent EU legal framework, the consistently high quality, pure and natural properties of natural mineral waters and spring waters will be preserved for future generations.”
