The Indian Express reports that the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has asked Everest Spices to stop manufacturing in Vikhroli for ‘failing to adhere to air pollution control norms’.
Several violations were found by MPCB inspectors in October this year, including improper roof ventilation and ‘torn bags in the grinding section’. Waste water was also found to be contaminated, says the report.
The Control Board has directed Tata Power to cut power and water to the two units in Vikhroli.
Locals are reported to have seen the factory continuing to function, defying the authorities.
