Brand-building distributor GM Marketing has announced its acquisition of Northern Ireland-based herbs and spices producer, Favourit Foods.
Established in 1914, Favourit supplies the Irish retail and foodservice sectors with herbs, spices and food ingredients.
Commenting on the sale, outgoing Favourit Foods owner Sean McCrory said: “The brand has been a much-loved part of our family now for over ten years, but the time was right to pass it on to a partner who will accelerate its growth and drive it into the next phase.”
GM Marketing managing director, Gerard McAdorey, added “The brand has so much heritage and history steeped in Belfast; it was an opportunity we couldn’t pass by.
“As a business, we are already supplying herbs and spices to market-leading retailers in Ireland, so this is a natural next step in the development of our business strategy and future growth plans.”
GM Marketing expects the deal to create 12 new jobs, with a new production facility planned for north Belfast.
Operating across the UK and Ireland, GM Marketing is a brand-building distributor focused on core grocery categories. The company also has a growing owned brand portfolio, with the acquisition of Favourit marking the distributor’s first move into food manufacturing.
GM aims to expand Favourit Foods’ footprint in the coming months, and marketing plans are in place to relaunch the brand later this year.
