The red metal cup contained 4,546 litres of water, 64kg of tea, 160kg of sugar and 875kg of Viva malted milk powder – the equivalent of 32,000 normal cups of tea. Viva, from Glaxosmithkline contains milk, wheat and malted barley.?
The previous Guinness World record was held by the Health Center in Fort Scott, Kansas, United States with a cup holding 3,000 litres while the new Viva record cup held 4,550 litres.??
Alison Ozanne, Guinness World Records Adjudicator from London, monitored the process and handed over the certificate to Sachi Thomas, chairman and managing director of GSK Consumer Health, Sri Lanka. “Viva is one of the fastest growing malt brands in the country and it is significant for us to be associated with Sri Lanka’s most loved beverage. The record is a tribute to the thousands of tea consumers in the country who consume their tea with malt,” he said.
The Largest Cup Of Tea in The World was driven around the capital Colombo, giving the public an opportunity to taste new Viva tea.
