Jameson has added a new IPA-aged, triple-distilled whiskey to its Caskmates range, called the Caskmates IPA Edition.
The new whiskey joins a range of beer-inspired recipes, and the IPA Edition is brewed in the same manner as the Caskmates Stout Edition.
Barrels are filled with IPA from the Franciscan Well brewery in Ireland initially, and then after the IPA has been imparted into the barrels they are sent to Jameson’s New Midleton Distillery to be reused and filled with Jameson Original.
Jameson claims that this process adds a hoppy finish to the drink, as well as grapefruit, citrus and floral notes.
Sebastien Border, brand director of Jameson Irish Whiskey, Pernod Ricard USA, said: “Jameson Caskmates IPA was born from the dedication of the whiskey making tradition that John Jameson established in 1780, combined with a relentless pursuit of original and innovative expressions for our whiskeys.
“Jameson Caskmates IPA brings the crisp, hoppy notes that characterises IPA beer together with the triple-distilled smoothness of Jameson to create a one-of-a-kind and exceptional tasting whiskey.”
The 40% ABV Caskmates IPA Edition will go on sale in the US this month – retailing at $29.99 per 750ml bottle – and in Ireland from January 2018.
