Young drinks brand Kenkō has launched a new range of cold-brew teas that contain half the amount of caffeine of hot tea.
The tea is available in darjeeling black, oolong, matcha Japan and rooibos blends and are made from natural ingredients, with no added sugar, for prices between £3.95 and £4.50. Their launch will be supported by a pop-up shop in Old Street underground station in London from February till April.
The company said: “Cold brew tea is a refreshing way to enjoy the goodness of tea. Kenkō cold brew tea is steeped for at least eight hours to release all the antioxidants and the full flavour of the tea, without it becoming bitter and tannic. The result is a refreshing beverage which is pure and healthy, benefitting your body and mind.”
Kenkō founder Limau Chen said: “Tea is such a natural and healing ingredient, we think it should be enjoyed both hot and cold. Kenkō cold brew teas are very clean and pure with 50% less caffeine that hot tea.”
The new products will be looking to exploit the demand for healthy options in a thriving marketplace. Earlier this week, we reported that the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) had established a safe daily intake level of 400mg of caffeine for adults.
