The Lactalis Iberia Group has signed an agreement with energy supplier Engie Spain, which will see Engie supply Lactalis’s factories, warehouses and offices with renewable energy.
The agreement will come into force from 1 January 2020, and Engie will supply around 70 GWh of electricity per year, covering at least 50% of Lactalis’s electricity demand in Spain.
Lactalis estimates that this will reduce carbon emissions at its factories by approximately 10%, around 26,950 tonnes of CO2 per year, the equivalent to removing 11,000 vehicles from the road for one year.
Ignacio Elola, CEO of the Lactalis Iberia Group said: “This agreement represents a further step in our strategy to reduce the impact of our activity on the environment and adds to the efforts we already make in terms of water consumption, water management waste or improvement of the sustainability of our packaging”.
In the opinion of Loreto Ordóñez, CEO of Engie Spain added: “Our service offerings have great added value by helping each client to develop their own decarbonisation strategy, and that this is profitable and consistent with their sustainable ambitions.
“Therefore, we face this challenge with solutions that involve us in the most diverse aspects depending on the needs of our clients, both financial, operational, technological or renewable energy supply”.
