Israeli sweetener company Lampados International has completed an expansion of its Caesarea site to increase production of its Liteez vegan sweetener.
Liteez, which was launched last year, is shaped like a meringue, but can be melted into hot drinks or baked into snacks as a substitute to more calorific sweeteners.
They are egg-free, sugar-free and vegan – and two pieces of Liteez provide around 2kcal, compared to the 20kcal in a single teaspoon of sugar.
The new facility was designed according to eco-friendly principles to “dramatically reduce energy and water use”. The new closed system is said to prevent contamination throughout every step, allowing maximum flexibility that increases capacity by “22 times”.
The new production process of the Liteez 3D sweetener allows water and energy savings thanks to: a more controlled foaming system that permits a reduction of water in the mixture by 9%, as we;l as the use of heated pipes that save 6% of energy by getting the material from cold to drying temperature more rapidly.

Lampados CEO Noam Kaplan said: “When we set out to create a new sweetener, while we certainly strived for exceptional characteristics and functionality, we wanted to do so with responsibility.
“Consumers, especially millennials, expect manufacturers to be a part of the community and take care of the environment. Part of Lampados’ mission is to make Liteez a better-for-you product in every aspect.”
Kaplan added: “As a family business, Lampados constantly turns back to its roots and core values. We keep searching for innovation in flavour and functionality, but it also is important for us to conserve our precious resources.
“Water is one of the most valuable resources in Israel, so it is only responsible to reduce waste and at the same time produce our safe sweetener using only simple ingredients.”
Lampados was founded in 1975 and specialises in table-top sweeteners and health products, such as sugar-free syrups. CEO Noam Kaplan joined the company in 2009.
