Officially launched on 14 September at Imagination Gallery, Face Britain is open to all children and young people aged 4-16 years throughout the UK and gives them the opportunity to create self-portraits which will be publicly displayed across the country.
Face Britain will also be a Guinness World Record attempt for the most artists working on the same art installation.
Portraits will be displayed on all the BBC big screens which become official London 2012 live sites next year. Prominent JCDecaux digital screens across the UK will provide a unique snapshot of how the nation’s young people see themselves.
Face Britain will also see celebrity participants including Alan Rickman, Jeremy Irons, Fearne Cotton, Amir Khan, Ade Adepitan, Quentin Blake, Ryan Gander, Carol Ann Duffy, James Naughtie and a host of other famous faces alongside self-portraits from tens of thousands of the nation’s youth.
At the culmination of the Face Britain initiative, Life Water will bring art pieces created through the installation to life by placing them on limited edition bottles that will be sold in early 2012 at select retailers.
Simon Konecki, co-founder of Life Water, said: “Life Water was initiated from the idea of giving back to the world and through our partnership with Face Britain, we aim to raise awareness not just for the UK’s largest ever art project but for cleaner, healthier drinking water.”
Set to be on shelves in April 2012, Life Water will debut a new bottle to celebrate the partnership with Face Britain and The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts.
