A survey of more than 30,000 people – one of the UK’s biggest on pieces of research of the country’s workforce, has revealed the state of our health.
The statistics were collected over 12 months using health check kiosks in workplaces up and down the UK.
The results showed that 64% of men and 48% of women had a higher than recommended BMI. Of these, 16% of the men and 15% of the women were classified as obese.
Body fat content is an estimate of what proportion of the body consists of fatty tissue – 78% of the men and 64% of the women were above the normal level. Keeping a check on this measure can help to prevent being overweight. The sample showed that 71% of the sample was not adequately hydrated.
Blood pressure was also taken and showed that men’s blood pressure is worse than women’s, leaving them at risk of heart disease and strokes – which could impact on their ability to work.
