European dairy farmers have given their full support to Welsh dairy farmer Mansel Raymond to lead dairy discussions in Brussels for the next two years. Re-elected Copa Dairy chairman, Raymond will continue to represent the dairy interests of the European farm organisation, which brings together over 60 farming unions.
“It’s going to be a difficult few months for dairy, but I remain convinced that the long-term future for dairy is positive,” he said. “I thank my fellow European colleagues for giving me their full support and I will work towards ensuring we have a profitable and sustainable EU dairy sector. Together we can be stronger in finding solutions such as addressing market volatility, better market monitoring and improved milk package implementation.”
NFU dairy board chairman Rob Harrison said it was vital that we had a strong voice in Europe, especially at this difficult time for the dairy sector.
“The NFU Dairy Board fully supports Mansel Raymond’s continuation in the role of Copa Milk chairman and we will be working closely with him to raise the UK’s points on intervention, promotion and increasing the bargaining power of farmers,” said Harrison. “At the Copa meeting, it’s clear that the same issues are impacting on farmers across Europe, but the proposed solutions are varied in that we need a clear, strong Copa position to present to the Commission, parliament and council.”
Manuel Raymond will be supported by two vice chairmen: Tommaso Mario Abrate and Thierry Roquefeuil.
