Female representation on the company’s Senior Management Group (SMG) has increased from 13 to 20% in the last 12 months. This is targeted to reach 30% by 2014.
Morrisons is compliant with Lord Davies’ recommendations and has two female directors on the company’s board. However, the company believes that the only way to ensure women reach the boardroom in the future is to ensure there is a healthy pipeline of talent coming from the shop floor.
Over the last 12 months there have been a number of improvements in the development of women in Morrisons:
Norman Pickavance, group HR director, said: “It’s not just about having the right numbers at the top, it’s about creating the right environment in which women can thrive and building a sustainable pipeline of talented women for the future. Morrisons believes making these changes will be good for the company as our management become more representative of our customers and employees.”
