Packaging company Multivac is to invest €2.5 million to extend the production hall at its site in Enger, Germany, where its marking and inspection branch is located.
Multivac said the marking and inspection business development has been ‘very positive’. The number of machine orders is said to have increased by 25% between 2014 and 2016, and last year the export share of the business was 77%.
The growth is due to a rise in the sales figures for inspection systems and conveyor belt labellers. The core market continues to be the food industry, but the healthcare and life sciences sectors also registered a significant increase in turnover.
There are currently 197 staff in total employed at Enger. After the new building has been completed, the current operating area of around 5,800 square metres will increase by approximately 1,600 square metres, consisting of a new production and assembly area, machine and welding zone, as well as new office space.
CEO of Multivac marking and inspection Volker Gerloff said: “With this extension to our production hall, we primarily want to expand our production capacity in the sectors of conveyor belt labellers and inspection systems, so that we can meet the constantly increasing demand for these solutions.
“Parallel to this, we will also use the opportunity after completion of the building work to further optimise our logistics and assembly processes.”
Building work has already begun on the extension and it is expected to be completed by April 2018.
