Addressing the milk producers who gathered at Bangabandhu International Convention Center, the state minister said: “We must save Bangladesh Milk Producers’ Co-operative Union Limited-BMPCUL (Milk Vita) from all kinds of corruption and Irregularities.”
BMPCUL members assembled at BICC on the occasion of the 33rd annual general meeting of the milk union. But at the outset of the function, the milk producers demanded the removal of irregularities, increase of milk price and announcement of election schedule of the union.
Chairman of parliamentary standing committee on LGRD and cooperatives advocate Muhammad Rahmat Ali, parliament members Chayan Islam and Shafiqul Islam Shafique, among others, addressed the function.
BMPCUL chairman Auhid Ullah Mollah, who presided over the function, postponed the AGM due to agitation of the milk producers and gave the assurance of holding it in a convenient time after Eid-Ul- Fitr.
Congratulating the decision taken by the chairman, Jahangir Kabir Nanak announced that the election of the union would be held very soon after completing legal affairs. Describing the prolonged irregularities in milk vita, Nanak said the previous BNP-Jamaat government had made it a ‘corruption den’.
Machinery for setting up a water bottling project was procured, spending Taka 21 crore during that regime with the money of BMPCUL at Mirpur factory, which is now being destroyed as it wasn’t utilised, he said.
Replying to different demands of the milk producers, Nanak said steps would be taken for increasing milk processing factories, and milk price raises for the producers not for consumers. It would be done by decreasing process expenditure, he said.
