Snack brand Mr Trotter’s has introduced an English mustard crackling to its growing collection of Great British pork crackling snacks.
The 60g bags will be available at Selfridges from the middle of January, and later through farm shops, delicatessens, garden centres, pubs and a number of other food retailers. They join the existing original and jalapeño varieties and will be introduced at a price of £1.89.
Mr Trotter’s co-founder Matthew Fort said: “There are all manner of foreign mustards – French moutard, German Senf, Italian senape, Argentinian savora, and sweet American mustard that’s only fit for a hot dog. In contrast, English mustard is a smooth, elegant condiment, a brilliant, natural yellow, with the impact of a gastronomic powder keg – keen, clean, potent and brilliantly British.”
Mr Trotter’s pork crackling is made from 100% prime British pork meat – unlike many pork crackling snacks – and are triple cooked for an intense crunch and flavoured with the company’s signature seasoning. The addition of a mustard version reinforces the brand’s image of being thoroughly British, as does the Red Tractor quality and original assurance symbol that it has been awarded.
It began as the brainchild of food writer Tom Park Bowles and Fort, a judge on the BBC2 television cookery programme, The Great British Menu.
