Nomadic Dairy has launched its Labneh Lebanese-style savoury yogurt to retail customers for the first time, after more than 25 years in the restaurant sector.
Packaged in 350g tubs, Nomadic Labneh launched into outlets of UK supermarket chain Tesco this month with a recommended retail price of £1.89. Labneh is traditionally used alongside pitta and olive oil, and Nomadic will promote its brand under the tagline “a dip with a difference”.
Its introduction coincides with an increase in consumption of speciality dips among UK consumers; Nomadic claimed that 41% of British households already enjoy hummus, and the company is hoping that its Labneh will be able to establish a presence in this sector and replicate the success it has had in the foodservice industry.
Nomadic co-founder Alan Cunningham said: “This is a really exciting new launch for us as we are bringing something new, yet traditional with lots of heritage to the UK retail trade. Labneh is as popular as hummus in the Middle East and we want to help consumers understand how versatile it is. Nomadic is bringing something unique to the yogurt aisle because Labneh’s savoury taste and thick texture is ideally suited as a dip which will expand usage occasions for the yogurt fixture.”
