The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has blocked shipments of over 690 tons of meat from a slaughterhouse in Gelderland, after horsemeat was found in four batches of beef scraps.
All meat stored in the Dutch slaughterhouse’s various refrigeration houses has been detained until the company can demonstrate the content and origin of its produce. The business has until 3 February 2014 to comply to the NVWA’s demands. If the information is not supplied, the unnamed Gelderland slaughterhouse could potentially be suspended.
