PepsiCo has joined forces with Feed the Children and Positive American Youth to provide families in need in the US state of Georgia with provisions of food, fresh produce and daily essentials.
With additional fresh produce supplied by American retailer Walmart, PepsiCo and the two not-for-profit organisations will together provide enough supplemental food and necessities to support a family of four for a week.
Provisions from the US snack foods manufacturer include a 25lb box of food with 2 litre bottle of Pepsi, ten-count box of Quaker chewy chocolate chip bars, 13oz box of Life cereal, 18oz standard Quaker oats and Tropicana orange juice. Also included is a 10lb box of necessities, such as Avon products and Georgia Pacific toilet roll.
The supplies will be distributed to 800 families in Atlanta – the state capital of Georgia and home to PepsiCo’s fiercest rival company, Coca-Cola – where the 2014 US census showed that the proportion of people living below the poverty line was 25%, almost 7% above the state-wide level.
Scott Closson is the sales zone director, South Georgia for PepsiCo’s snacks division, Frito-Lay. He said: “PepsiCo is excited to be partnering with Feed the Children for its fourth year of giving back and providing food and daily essentials to families in the Atlanta area.
“We call the US the land of plenty, and for most of us, that’s true. Yet, millions of boys and girls are going to bed hungry every night. By combining efforts today with PepsiCo and Positive American Youth, we are trying to put an end to that. These families are not only receiving food and necessities, but also the skills needed to break the cycle of poverty.”
