The rebranding of 30 UK branches of Pizza Hut to a “healthier” name of Pasta Hut is only a temporary measure, according to reports.
However, the traditional pizza-biased menus will change to reflect the company’s improved range of pasta dishes in an attempt to position the high street chain as an “upmarket” restaurant option.
Alasdair Murdoch, Pizza Hut CEO, said: “We’re trying to say to people, ‘Yes, we’re great at pizzas, but we’re also great at salads and pasta’. Pasta is around 3% or 4% of our sales. I’m very sure in a couple of weeks’ time that will be 10%.”
The rebranding is a trial, and customers are invited to share their thoughts by voting on whether the new name should stay or go. As of writing, 71% of voters on the site say ‘No way – Pizza Hut rules!’.
