Police had been called to investigate a suspicious liquid that had been thrown into a car in the early hours of Friday, setting off the car alarm, in Enfield, north London.
Officers arrived at the scene wearing protective suits, along with fire and ambulance services for support, to examine the spillage. According to reports, a female officer was taken to the hospital after getting some of the stuff on her suit. This was before everyone realised that it was Britain’s bestselling HP Sauce.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman told reporters: “We were called to the scene just after 3am to reports of something thrown into a car, with the car alarm going off. With any unidentified chemical spillages, we have to treat all incidents equally seriously.”
No arrests were made and it was concluded that the Heinz-produced sauce, however potent, was safe for public consumption.
