The company estimates it has now sold enough stevia (which contains zero calories) to eliminate one-trillion calories from diets.
The figure is based on product sales through June 2011 (the company’s fiscal year).
“PureCircle’s mission is to encourage healthier diets around the world through the supply of natural ingredients to the global food and beverage industry,” said Jason Hecker, vice president of global marketing and innovation, PureCircle. “We’re ready to deliver on it in Europe. In fact, our current operations have the capacity to produce enough stevia ingredients to reduce over two trillion calories per year. To put this into context, it’s enough to remove over 5bn calories a day from UK diets. At a time when programmes such as the Public Health Responsibility Deal are calling for change, we’re working with manufacturers in the UK and across Europe to be part of the solution.”
