The year-long scheme, called ‘You Can Be a Team Leader, Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3’, is now being rolled out across Sainsbury’s supermarkets in the UK and will help participants qualify for a full-time, team leader position.
The apprenticeships go further than ever before to develop talent and equip future team leaders with new skills and vocational qualifications, including nationally recognised certificates that are the equivalent of two A-levels.
The roll-out of the new scheme follows a review of Sainsbury’s apprenticeship offer and an extensive trial of the programme to ensure that Level 3 Apprenticeships are as ‘rewarding and robust as possible’.
400 places are available in the first year, with the expectation that the majority of large Sainsbury’s supermarkets would recruit one apprentice per store. This will be reviewed and adapted in the second year and may be extended to allow applications from external candidates.
The apprentices can be any age, but cannot hold any qualifications higher than GCSEs, giving those without further education the opportunity to access job-related qualifications.
They will spend at least 30 hours a week working in-store with an established individual learning programme.
