School dinner staff at Castle View School have been banned from serving triangular flapjacks after one was thrown and hurt a seven year old pupil. The school apparently said the ‘isolated accident’ had led to ‘a review of the texture and shape of the flapjacks’ served to students.
According to a report in The Sun, a school insider said: “It’s a health and safety issue. Staff have been told to stop making triangle-shaped flapjacks immediately. They were told they were a safety hazard as a child had been hit in the head with one.
“It’s the most ludicrous thing I’ve heard. I thought it was a joke. Even if you only have rectangular or square-shaped flapjacks, the children could still break them into triangles and launch them at someone.
“It’s very silly. You’d have thought teachers would have more pressing concerns on their minds than the shape of snacks.”
The insider added: “It seems strange as a square means there is one more corner for a child to be hit with. If they’re going to be extreme, maybe they should insist on only round desserts. The teachers shouldn’t be banning food — they should be teaching the children to eat it, rather than throwing it about.”
