Smári has announced the introduction of four new flavours of its organic Icelandic yogurt.
New pure and vanilla varieties have been added to its whole milk range, while non-fat peach and island-inspired coconut flavours are also available. Thicker than Greek yogurt and uniquely different to traditional Icelandic versions, which would typically exclude all fat, Smári’s thick and creamy yogurt from Wisconsin farms is stocked by retailers Whole Foods, The Fresh Market, National CoOp and Costco.
Its products contain less sugar than most of its competitors and 20g of protein, which is more per ounce than any other yogurt product in the US market, its manufacturers say.
The company, named for its founder Smári Asmundsson, said: “For over 1100 years, Icelandic yogurt has been made nonfat… until now. Smári is reimagining its heritage by keeping the fat. For healthy, growing kids and those embracing fat in their lifestyle, a pasture based, whole milk option has finally arrived.”
