Starbucks has revealed plans to open its first Cambodian location before the end of the year – its 16th market in the China/Asia Pacific region.
The first store in the country will open at the newly expanded international airport in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, with another outlet opening in downtown Phnom Penh by early 2016. The company has signed a licensing agreement with Cambodia with Coffee Concepts – part of Hong Kong Maxim’s Group – to deliver Starbucks’ in-store experience and steward the brand’s growth within the Southeast Asian country.
The agreement builds on Maxim’s 15-year partnership with Starbucks that has seen it invest in and grow the brand across Hong Kong, Macau and, most recently, Vietnam.
Starbucks group president, China/Asia Pacific, channel development and emerging brands, John Culver, said: “Cambodia is a vibrant country with a rich cultural heritage, and we are proud to bring the unparalleled Starbucks experience to this market. We look forward to becoming a part of Cambodia’s local coffee culture, embracing its traditions and sharing our deep passion and knowledge of the best coffees from around the world.”
“We are pleased to be extending our partnership with Starbucks to Cambodia and look forward to leveraging our expertise and knowledge of the Starbucks brand to deliver the Starbucks Experience to customers in the market,” added Hong Kong Maxim’s Group chairman and managing director Michael Wu.
