Fuelled by a desire to generate consumer outreach that is both novel and appreciated, the company has solicited the assistance of a Northern Californian bike-smith to create over a dozen customised replicas of Victorian pedal machines.
The design chosen, is commonly known as a ‘High Wheeler’ or a ‘Penny-Farthing’ as a result of the different sized wheels reminiscent of two defunct English coin currency.
Taylor Peck, cofounder and acting brewmaster at Taylor’s Tonics, said: “We’ve selected a unique compact design that features a hand brake. Because riding a Penny-Farthing is a blast, but falling from five feet up isn’t. We’ve been on the hunt for a bicycle promotion over the past year that fit our company’s image, and I think we found it.”
Taylor’s Tonics currently distributes four principal flavours including Chai Cola, Mate’ Mojito, Café Azteca, and Mate’ Colada. They closed out 2011 with the release of their ‘Holiday Fizz Collection’ which included all-natural Eggnog Fizz, Candy Cane Shake, Cranberry Dream, and Gingerbread House Sparkler.
Peck added: “The barrier of entry to interested ‘Mini-Penny’ contestants is intentionally low. We’re simply asking for folks to join us on Facebook, and once there, they will be automatically eligible to win.”
Going forward, Peck plans to use Facebook as a platform to further explain additional (more intensive) contests that may land a person with a bicycle. Upcoming contests may include making films, songs, artwork, or charity participation.
