This box was large enough to house a collection of Shakespeare plays in hardback format, a litter of bloodhound puppies, or perhaps a whole Apple iMac 27in personal computer.
We opened the box. There was a polystyrene case within, which itself was packed with lots of large bubble wrap and no less than seven large ice packs (the hard plastic kind). Buried within this mass of packaging was a modest 4-pack of pots, each containing probably 125g of product.
It wouldn’t be prudent of me to name names, but this is a shocking indictment of so-called ‘corporate environment and sustainability awareness’.
Every day, we read about how companies are setting earnest goals for responsible monitoring of their carbon footprints; about how recycling is a key part of their global operations, yet somehow the message doesn’t seem to cascade down through the ‘reality funnel’.
It’s only when a corporate body can relay its message to everyone involved with the company that we’ll really believe its carbon footprint blurb.
In other words, until that person who sent us the box today truly understands what it means to be environmentally aware, and can convey that message on behalf of the company they represent, our climate is in a whole heap of trouble.
