More than 1,000 12-18 year olds across the UK were questioned about their attitudes to milk. Over 80% of 12-18 year olds say they are fully aware that milk contains nutrients such as calcium and protein which help their bodies stay healthy.
Despite the proliferation of sports drinks available to them, 81% regard milk as ‘a good drink in a balanced diet and physically active lifestyle.’ 78% also believe milk is a healthy drink to consume after physical activity or participation in sport.
The Dairy Council director Dr Judith Bryans said: “t demonstrates once again the overwhelming popularity of dairy products within in the UK, particularly within the liquid milk market where consumption within the UK is on the increase.”
About 70% of respondents said that they drink milk and have it on their breakfast cereals, with 45% saying that they consume most of their milk at breakfast time.
