Though the market was ‘by no means’ immune to the global downturn, the study suggested that strong momentum seen in recent years had been sufficient to carry Vietnam forward, keeping it ahead of Asia’s largest consuming nations.
“Growth even outpaced neighbouring China, but with an annual per capita of just under 19 litres, Vietnamese soft drinks consumption remains nearly half that of their giant neighbour and less than a quarter of the global average,” the drinks specialist stated.
Last month, amid increasing competition over growing Asian markets, The Coca-Cola Company launched a new variety of its leading fruit juice range. The manufacturer claimed in June that Minute Maid Pulpy, produced specifically to suit local tastes, was already the bestselling drink in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
