Water.IO's technology includes the Smart Cap, which fits onto any disposable bottle.
Visy, one of the largest packaging companies in Australia and New Zealand, has teamed up with smart packaging provider Water.IO on a strategic partnership that will aim to bring smart packaging to the region.
Under the partnership, Water.IO’s solutions will enable Visy to provide ‘highly advanced intelligent packaging’ options for its customers in the food and drinks industry.
Israeli-based Water.IO produces a range of data-enabled packaging, including its Smart Cap, which fits onto most disposable bottles and turns it into a smart bottle by using sensors to remind consumers when it’s time to rehydrate, or when it needs to be refilled.
Richard Macchiesi, general manager of insights and innovation for Visy, said: “As we enter a new era of smart packaging, companies must partner together to solve problems and move the market forward. This is why we’re working with Water.IO – we have found an exciting mature technology and dedicated team to partner with.

Together, we look forward to setting a new standard for what’s possible through packaging. as the Internet of Things raises consumers’ expectations for products that anticipate their every need, Water.IO is leading the charge on doing this for consumer goods.
“For the first time, brands can gain first hand insights on how their customers are using their products. Through our technology expertise and Visy’s extensive production capabilities and global reach, we are excited about bringing the ‘smart packaging’ revolution – and the opportunity – to markets worldwide.”
