2013 is the first year in which the ‘Sammie Award’ organisers have extended the categories to incorporate gluten and wheat-free. This comes after Newburn Bakehouse reported sales up 91.9% on the same period last year, which is ahead of the category growing at 16.7%.
The awards are open to anyone involved in the sandwich industry. Through a series of five regional heats, a panel of expert judges, including members of the Newburn Bakehouse team, will be invited to assess the entrant’s creative skills. The final, to be held in London (UK), will award the coveted prize of Best Sandwich Designer of the Year.
This month Newburn Bakehouse, Warburtons’ gluten and wheat-free range launched four innovative new free-from, which included the launch of the UK’s first free-from Wrap, a Morning Muffin, twin pack of Baguettes and 600g Seeded Loaf.
