Wicked Coffee’s MD, Fergus Walsh, recently presented a cheque for over £600 to Coffee Kids’ UK Development Liaison, Elisa Kelly. The Yorkshire-based company decided to become involved with Coffee Kids after winning the contract to supply Roadchef motorway services station restaurants last year and now makes a donation to Coffee Kids for every case sold of its Italian Roast Espresso Beans.
Walsh said: “Around 125 million people all over the world are dependent on the coffee harvest for their income. We are very proud to be associated with Coffee Kids, a charity that works with coffee-farming families to improve their lives and livelihoods. Our business wouldn’t exist without the hard work of these people, so we felt we’d like to give something back in return. This is the first of many donations we’ll be making to this very worthy cause.”
Coffee Kids works with local organisations in Latin America to create programmes in education, health awareness, microcredit and food security in coffee-farming communities. This allows coffee farmers to reduce their dependence on the volatile coffee market and receive help with their most pressing community needs. Because every coffee-farming community is unique, every Coffee Kids project is also unique, but they all operate with respect for the values, cultural integrity, intelligence and ingenuity of those they help.
