A panel of judges; Zac Goldsmith MP, Dame Julia Cleverdon, Tristram Stuart and Dr Alan Knight, worked alongside senior Waitrose buyers and the retailer’s Corporate Social Responsibility team, to choose nine winners who have gone the extra mile to demonstrate best practice.
The winners, selected from more than 200 entries, all highlighted the important role their business plays in safeguarding the future of the environment and the food industry.
Suppliers were invited to enter the awards under the categories of Treading lightly, Championing British, Living well and Treating people fairly – which are the four core principles of the supermarket’s CSR policy, ‘The Waitrose way’.
Quentin Clark, head of sustainability and ethical sourcing at Waitrose said: “The nine winners were all selected for their outstanding and innovative efforts to make a difference – but we are also recognising a further 67 suppliers as highly commended entries to acknowledge the widespread, excellent work that is taking place across our supply chain.”
